Following up from last weeks post about the trip to Newcastle Fashion Week, I have now found a photo of me on Company Magazine's website under their '10 street styles of Newcastle'! fkdanfnjdfnjmg, this made me do a small dance in my bedroom, (http://www.company.co.uk/fashion/top-10s/best-street-style-newcastle). I'm telling you, it's one small step towards ruling the fashion world.
Ta-dah!Company Magazine Street Style
Okay, that is possibly/likely to be/definitely an exaggeration, but I got excited.

I have also been very bored this week - after I got all my university deadlines, I found out that unlike most students I hate :
1. Sleeping in until ridiculous hours in the afternoon
2. Lying around doing absolutely nothing.
3. Being lazy.
4. Sleeping some more.
So instead, I've been faced with the task of trying to keep my over active brain very much that; active and busy. I started making those small scented things that people like to put in their drawers? I don't know if they have a proper technical term? I made four personalized ones for coming home presents for my family (they'll be overjoyed to see me and the presents obviously!) I started with plain, boring calico and then decorated them with beads and lace. I didn't have any fancy smelly flowers to put inside them, so I used my initiative and tipped herbal tea bags into them (works just as well!) They were ridiculously cheap and easy to make which proves you don't need lots of money to make nice sentimental things!

It was also my last week in Newcastle this week before I go home for summer. YES!!!
So I decided to try and get out and see people before I make the trek back to Manchester later today.
After my amazing hand massage at the fair last weekend, I paid a trip to Lush in Eldon Square to simply stand around nice smelling things and to try to emerge smelling as good as the shop itself (the last attempt was in vain). I managed to get another hand massage and the lovely lady there gave me a free present of a Soft Coeur Massage Bar - which I advise everybody to go and buy. I don't like chocolate. Nor do I like overly sweet things, but this massage bar is lovely. Made of honey and Shea butter, it was silky on my hands and didn't leave them greasy and slimy afterwards. My hands were soft as a baby's bottom afterwards and best of all, they didn't feel chapped or sore for the rest of the day! Result in my eyes.
Has anybody been to Urban Outfitters lately and seen the heeled jelly shoes that they have in store? FLASHBACK TO MY NINETIES CHILDHOOD ALERT!!
I had some of those shoes when they were originally the 'in thing'. I remember they pinched my toes, left me with rust marks on my feet but were without a doubt my fav. shoes of my childhood.Beth and I also had a lot of fun trying on the glasses that made us look like bluebottle flies. There haven't been many opportunities to 'don' the sunglasses whilst I've been up here, so we made the most of the weather and formed the RayBan Rabble. This is the name we will choose if we ever begin a rebellion, stand for Parliament etc.

Hannah came round on Friday night. I do love Hannah, she instantly makes me smile when I see her wild mop of cherry red hair. It felt like ages since I had seen her last, so I invited her around to celebrate my final night in Newcastle - very civilized and much more my scene than going out and getting absolutely mortal (that is a word I will proudly take home from Newcastle though.)
''Adele's Newcastle English Dictionary- 'Mortal' - The act of getting extremely drunk, to the stage where memory loss, vomitting and potentially embarrassing and life changing decisions occur. Often those who are in this state end up in a gutter somewhere''.

A pretty fair way to sum it up in my opinion. Anyway, we spent the night complaining about life in student halls, failing miserably to chop and steam sweet potatoes and then snap chatting her family. Snap chat, what an invention eh?!! I cooked her tea and then she repaid the favour by publicly embarrassing me and tweeting a photo of my flat mates rubbish.
THIS IS NOT MY RUBBISH; I DO NOT ENDORSE SLOBS. I AM A CLEAN HUMAN BEING!!!!

I am starting a fresh leaf. My initial promise of staying uber motivated and on top of this blog failed, rather dramatically to say the least. It's not that I couldn't be bothered (please don't get that impression of me!) but I've had so many other things on my mind, that unfortunately the blog fell down the drainpipe.
:'( :'(

But now it's summer and I WILL stay on top of it.
So this week, the weather in Newcastle has been as temperamental as ever. Over the bank holiday I was topping up my none existent tan down on the quayside and am proud to say that I turned a slightly more healthy colour than my usual albino tinge. Nobody else noticed a difference, but daringly, I  turned up my jeans TWICE and exposed my milk bottle legs to Newcastle- how adventurous!

Sunny Tyne Bridge on the Quayside!!!!

I managed to get down to the Quayside to do a mini photoshoot for my uni project with my friend which was nice. (I don't envy her stripping off down there though). She's wearing a top I made and designed.

Then, as to be expected, on Thursday I was hiding in my flat again, staring out into a bleak and dull courtyard whilst the weather turned a lot more 'duck friendly'. My hair does not fair well in these conditions and what with my mountains of university work, indoors was the safest option for me.

But now, university has finished for summer!!! (YEAH!) Now it's time to start entertaining myself until September. That seems like an awful long time, so I am open for suggestions for projects to keep me entertained/sane until then. Please.
I went to the opening event of Newcastle Fashion Week today which was cool. We met the editor of Company Magazine, Victoria White and Louise Wedderburn, Caryn Franklin, Samantha Bennett and Vita Taylor who gave a masterclass interview about how to 'Get Into Fashion'. I learnt, to get in, I need to stand out; may have to purchase a flashing beacon or walk around in an inflatable olive costume to achieve that one!! Catherine bought an adorable bracelet from Bcharmed, a Newcastle based jewellry company and a lip scrub from Lush which she later found out she could eat!! MULTI PURPOSE. Oh and we then did a spot of promotion for Annie and The Mannequins, of which the owner's are GORGEOUS!
I think I had complete envy at how they managed to still look summery and beyond stunning despite their early start and the bleak weather (www.annieandthemannequins.com) Follow them on Twitter, @AnnieandtheMs.

I was recently at my friends house and as you do when you're with a fashion loving chum, we decided to live the life of a model and discover our modelling potential. I must admit, she is a rather smashing model whereas I on the other hand have very few photogenic genes within my blood.
We cracked out my camera and spent the day dolling each other up, taking photos, scrubbing our faces of make-up until they were red raw, back combing hair, spilling foundation on the white carpet, looking through Elle and Vogue for inspiration and then standing awkwardly in front of the camera whilst the other person laughed at our lack of ability to pull a sexy, schmizing, pouting, or just a normal face that was neither -
a) like we were constipated or in extreme pain
b) like we needed a wee
c) like we had seen something that genuinely scared us
d) like we had just spotted an extremely attractive member of the male species (although this may have fuelled our 'lusting' looks)

At the end of the day, what did we have to show for it? What did we learnnnn from this experience?
WELL, I learnt that Tesco Value make up wipes are not soft and gentle as they promise and should only be used if you want to remove paint from cars. I also found out that foundation does not mix well with carpet, even if it is for almost albino like myself. Finally, I worked out, that if I ever fail at all career prospects in life, I would make a much better lion than a model.

I hate Lent. No, let me rephrase that, I like lent and the build up to Easter because it reminds me of when I was little and mum made church a compulsory Sunday activity and we got to paint Easter eggs, make Easter gardens, plant flowers, draw spring baby animals, give our mums daffodils on Mothers Day, go out on outings to look for lambs and chickens etcetc. I like the time for being with family, I like how the weather gets a smidge more bearable (unless you live in the UK, in which case, we reach sub-zero temperatures at this time of year),  I like the general feeling of Spring. I don't like what lent has become though. In the past, lent wasn't something that people bragged about, or a time when people would compete with each other to see who could give up the most shocking thing and ultimately how long they'd survive without this 'essential'. I know so many people who try to upstage each other, 'OHMYGOD, GIVEN UP XBOXXXXX, and I'm dying after three hours' orrrr
'Christ Almighty, given up chocolatecrispscakebiscuitsdrivingshortdistancesbitingmynailstheinternetshoppingfacebook -pause for dramatic breath- oh and alcohol, because I'm rock hard and have the willpower of a boulder'.
Why brag about it? Just give it up already, if you succeed, GO YOU, its something you should be proud of. If not, Hay Ho, there's always next year.
I guess this is something I can't stand within life in general. Over competitiveness and unhealthy rivalry. There's nothing worse than sitting in class, writing something you are tres proud BUZZING off and then realising that that one person who is determined to make you feel rubbish about yourself has already read your answer and is formulating a plan to make you look as stupid and brain dead as plankton. You say one thing. They instantly
did something that sounds so much better. You bought a new top, they got bought the entire contents of Urban Outfitters just for being them. You ran a new personal best, they completed a marathon in 0.3242 seconds because their father is really Sonic the Hedgehog.
A bit of competition is normal. Who doesn't like winning after all? But it's something else when you feel like you have to better somebody at all times. Just to fuel your own self ego. Well do you know what? Screw them, who wants a Blue Hedgehog as a dad anyway? Stubbles prickly enough thankyou very much.

My wardrobe is dire at the moment. It really is quite shocking. I feel completely uninspired whenever I come to whiz together an outfit, I dislike most of the clothes when they're on and I spend the majority of my time debating whether to wear black or be VERY brave and opt for a very outgoing shade of navy considering the colour palette of most of my clothes is...well...black to say the least.

Whenever I go shopping for myself, I either see nothing when I have dollah or everything seems to be out at once when my dosh is somewhat lacking. I also have the problem that I see something, pick it up, trail through the entire shopping holding said item as though it's the last available one and when I get to the changing rooms it's either a) too cold to try anything on, b) I can't be bothered looking at myself in a mirror and scrutinizing in what way it doesn't suit me or c) I just genuinely can't be bothered spending my money. $.$
Now due to these annoying habits, I'm often the one on shopping trips who comes home with a candle that was reduced to 89p or a pack of pencils that I 'desperately needed for an art project despite my many hundreds of pencils in exactly the same shade at home'. I used to be the girl who you had to restrain when it came to shopping because I bought everything without bothering if I would wear it once or if it would ever be dug out of my wardrobe. I've lost my shopping OOOOSH!
So now, I've come to the conclusion that I need to treat myself more. Do wee bit more retail therapy to ween myself back into the shopping mode or I'll get to summer and I'll be wearing furry ankle boots and a bomber jacket on the beach (absolute beach-babe attire). So I'm writing a list. Like the one's you used to write to Father Christmas, listing exactly what you want in the precise colour and where you can find it (I'm surprised I didn't supply the big man with geographical co-ordinates so as to find exactly what I wanted). The only exception is that this list says,
'Dear Adele,
You have worked hard for this money, you deserve to spend this money for the simple reason that you don't want to be walking around naked for the rest of your life.
Take my advice,
Love Adele'

This list is going to have every item of clothing (within reason) that I see and need on it in order to sprucen up my dying excuse of a wardrobe and any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
HOWEVER, you must remember that-
-I do not suit the colour yellow/lemon/grey/orange unless you wish to make me look severely ill or on my deathbed.
- I do not suit maxi dresses due to my unfortunately disproportionate body.
- Body-con is my ultimate no no, hip bones galore
- I am very hard to please and you must be prepared for my to rip to shreds anything that you suggest.

For Christmas, I was spoiled rotten by my parents. So many pampering products for my hair, skin, makeup and enough smelly stuff to keep me smelling DELICIOUS for years to come. I think that my parents were trying to hint something with the vast amounts of body spray, body wash, body scrub, body butter, face wash, facecloths etc.
I decided that despite my complete lack of experience when it comes to this blogging malarkey and the fact that I am a complete failure as a teenage girl (being that I do not take care of my skin or have strict beauty regimes and spend 20 minutes maximum getting ready when it comes to going out), that I'd try my hand at rating some of the products that I got. Here it goes....

So first, my mane of hair often requires a certain amount of tweaking and caring for but I don't have time to spend hours using straighteners or blow drying it straight until its perfectly straight. I tend to choose fruity shampoos such as Herbal Essences, Charles Worthington or even much less expensive brands...that was until the Mother treated me to the Limited Edition Moist shampoo and conditioner from the Aussie collection. WOOWZA MATE! (the best Australian impression that I could possibly do over the internet, so use your imagination). Not only does it smell lovely, but I find that its completely easy to use and always leaves my hair feeling so good! My hair is a natural strawberry blond colour (I don't dye or highlight it) and although some shampoos leave my hair looking quite dull and lifeless, each time I use these Aussie products, it looks shinier and as though it has as much bounce as a kangeroo (sorry for the lame Australia related pun but I couldn't resist.)

I think I'm an Aussie convert. I hate to admit it, but I've succumb to the idea that you get exactly what you pay for and spending more money obviously pays off. I think that I'm going to treat myself more often and I'm going to try the Aussie heat protection spray (available at most leading shops, supermarkets and even hairdressers).

I was talking to my friends recently and somehow, we managed to get onto the topic of
'Which five celebrities would you invite to a dinner party?' Your choices could be past or present, foreign or british and the only condition was that your party had to be interesting....So my mind instantly went into mild panic and I could not think of 5 people who a) i could imagine sitting around a table chatting about the weather with (if conversation became THAT boring) and b) who I would actually like to invite to talk to.
Some of the people that came up were quite obvious and in my opinion, quite predictable...Kim Kardashian, David Beckham, Kanye West, Robert Pattinson, etcetcetc.

I would choose none of the above, not because they wouldn't be interesting (i do not want to offend a worldwide fanbase), but because I believe that there are thousands more people that could teach me a thing or two about their lives and mine.Obviously, you'd need that one person who can spark up the conversation and if things get a smidge boring, they can drop some hilarious joke to re-jig the banter. I was initially thinking Will Smith due to the fact that in Fresh Prince and most of the films I have seen him in, I adore his acting, especially the famous line
'ahhh hell no!' plus, lets be honest, those huge lush lips of his are just perfect.
Next, I was thinking about which inspirational person I would like to attend; Martin Luther King and his story always gets to me...but there are so many people in the world that at this point I became stuck. Well and truely baffled by the vast number of people that I could choose from.
So, instead of thinking about it logically, I decided to list some names instead;
Anna Wintour (fashion genius, queen of editting and overall legend in the fashion world), Beyonce (DIVA), JK Rowling (to quiz her and to ask her all the questions I could posibbly think of about Harry Potter, Johnny Depp, James Corden, Nick Grimshaw, Vivieene Westwood, Rupert Grint, Alexa Chung, Gok Wan...There are so many people and so few places.
So now I want to ask the public what they think...
Who would you choose to invite?

Monday, 23 January 2012

Last night, whilst we were sat down for our weekly family chitchat (something that often ends in World War 3), the subject of prom popped up. Prom. HA, I have mixed opinions about this 'passage of right'. Although I've already had my high school prom, fast approaching is my little sisters prom and she's already planned every aspect of her night. The dress, must be long and flattering in either black, aqua or purple, the shoes must be verging on 7 inch heels with a platform to match (preferabley Kurt Geiger or Carvella), she wants needs minimal jewellry and a very bright clutch bag that will match her eyes (how on earth can you find a bag to match your eyes?) and of course, she must have been on holiday either prior to the night or wear enough fake tan to make her look like she often spends her leisuretime playing volleyball in the Bahamas. Trivial little things that seem to make a young girls night that bit more perfect.
After all, that's exactly what we want isn't it? Perfection. Who wants to be the girl that everybody remembers seeing, but nobody remembers exactly what she was wearing; the one person that although you know were there, you made no conscious effort to talk to because she simply didn't look good enough to have a photo with. We watch so many American-ised films depicting the perfect prom or homecoming, where the disco ball is so grande that it would have needed a forklift to get it into place or the amount of flowers that are there are enough to send someone with hayfever into a shock. There's always that special dance with that special person and even though without a doubt, something is bound to go wrong, the heroes and heroines in the film always manage to come away saying that it was the best night of their lives.

The perfect first dance, romantic, intimate and somewhat unrealstic unless you are in Gossip Girl....

Cue reality ; the inevitabley awkward first dance with that one special chap

My prom, in all honesty, was not all that great. Ok, it wasn't all that bad. Nobody was sick on my dress after too much diluted bucksfizz, nobody was arrested, the DJ didn't fall off the stage whilst doing the running man (although in my opinion that would have made the night a smidge more rememberable) and there wasn't any scandals. It was simply prom. Girls spent weeks preparing for it; spray tanning until they resembled someone of a different ethnicity, applying fake talons and eyelashses and spending ridiculous amounts of money on dresses and glittery accesorises. By the time they had actually got to the venue, they had spent so long hyping up the event, that it was regretably always going to be a let down.
I bought my dress from a vintage shop, nobody could believe the price that I had paid for it but I guess that that was part of why I liked it so much. My shoes, I got on whim after a lovely day of shopping with my mum. My one and only bracelet was one that my mum had picked out and I wore a necklace my grandma got me for my conformation. I didn't have my hair professionally teased into a celebrity worthy style, I had a makeover at the bodyshop after I tried some spot reducing cream (glam, I know) and the only bit of 'tanning' I did, was standing in the garden to have a couple of photos taken. I went to the same venue, had the same meal (although I remember that was a disaster and we didn't eat it) and all in all had the same night as my friends who had spent X amount on the evening. I think what I am trying to say, is that money and expensive things aren't everything.
Although in reality, the night of prom was a letdown, I didn't enjoy myself less because I wasn't wearing a £500 dress. We get so caught up on looking 'perfect' that we often race through life without really enjoying it. I asked a girl after prom what was the best moment and she said she couldn't really remember anything after having her spray tan done. This is sad. I can remember prom, not as a huge, exciting, glamourous and expensive night where all my dreams came true, but as a night that I had a good time with my friends, sat on a ridiculously large pouff in the girls toilets whilst singing along to moulin rouge, watched my friends piggyback race in huge prom gowns, talked merrily with my tipsy science teacher, snorted lines of pepper and salt with the class druggies like a pro, nearly exposed all when one girl arrived in a helicopter and dancing until I couldn't walk in my shoes for a minute longer and had to massage my friends and my feet on the coach journey home. I think these little things are what made my prom rememberable, not the fact that I was swept off my feet and that it was the 'Night Of My Life'.

Chop Of The Mop

I hate having my hair cut. No, let me rephrase that slightly. AS MUCH AS I LOVE having my haircut, it doesn't half stress me out. Jeez Louise, such decisions. Practically half of your hair has fallen out by the time it comes to your appointment.
I spend weeks preparing exactly what I am going to say to the hairdresser, printing off photos, readying myself for that dreaded question of ''What'll it be this time?'' No matter how much I've readied myself at this stage, my mind goes blank, I get nervous shakes and murmur 'The same as per usual'.

At this point, the hairdresser (who obviously doesn't know me from Adam) smiles, pretends they know exactly what you want before attacking your hair with such force and speed, you'd think they were either a robot or on drugs.
Then to top it all off, you go to sixthform the next day with your new do and get countless,'OH MY GOODNESS, it's so.....different'. This is not the most comforting thing to hear considering you asked for exactly the same as last time.

My problem? I'm stuck in a hair rut. Too scared to try something new but constantly wishing that I had the balls to say to that hairdresser, 'You know what, sod the plans, sod the photo, go wild'.

My hair bores me at present. I never know what to do with it and when I try to do those perfect hairdos that all the other girls seem to achieve without a problem, I somehow manage to turn my hair into something that resembles a birds nest headdress.
So now, I'm resorting to the trusty internet yet again to help me. Has anyone got any ideas of how to make my mid length, dirty blonde hairstyle more interesting? By interesting, I do not mean mohawk or leopard prints shaved into my scalp...something a tad more flattering for my face perhaps and not so....bland?

Where to begin?
I'm sure this is the problem that many first time bloggers experience when they are faced with the daunting challenge of posting something online that not only other people will want to read, but that they will also enjoy, find slightly amusing, not give up on after the first sentence (I think that's more appropriate).
I've read countless other blogs from those that explain how to make the perfect blackberry pie in just 5 minutes (highly impossible, I'm guessing unless you have the arms of an octopus) to those that give the PRECISE whereabouts of the individual, every minute of the day (I am not a stalker, I do not need your geographical co-ordinates.)
So this right here is my dilemma. In reality, I'm just an eighteen year old girl with very little experience of life, who has no idea what she want's to do in the future and with a head that's often swimming with ideas that are either too long winded to text about or utterly odd. I needed a creative way to channel all these thoughts.
By reading this blog, not only are you likely to come across a lot of very things that are extremely 'typical of an eighteen year old girl', but it's possible that you'll have gotten through this post and thought, 'I am completely bored already'.
Yeah, that's it really. I'll try to keep my rants to bare minimum (highly unlikely), my speeches of how 'I strive to achieve world peace and mutual respect' on the down low and finally, to remember (a challenge in itself) to post regular, interesting and readable posts.

Ta v. much, Adele xo
